Which dive site will we visit?
Patrol Boat P31, originally named Pasewalk, was a Kondor I class minesweeper built in East Germany in 1968-69. It served the Volksmarine (German navy) before being decommissioned in 1990 following German reunification. Malta purchased the vessel in 1992, and it was renamed P31, serving as a patrol boat for the Maritime Squadron of the Armed Forces of Malta. In 2009, the Malta Tourism Authority scuttled P31 off Comino island to create an artificial reef and dive site.
Santa Maria Caves is a well-known diving site near Cominotto Island in Malta’s archipelago. Divers from around the world come here for its incredible underwater caves and tunnels.
The Santa Maria cave system has several entrances, each leading to a unique underwater world. These caves vary in size and shape, making them exciting to explore. Inside, divers find bright corals, many sea animals including different kinds of fish, and amazing light effects from the sun shining through openings.
As the dives are done quite far from shore, there is a possibility that the diver will start surfacing before returning to the boat. For safety reasons, we insist that each diver has a personal safety buoy (SMB) and recommend a marine or pneumatic whistle.
